Andy and Izzy had planned to volunteer in April 2010 but were foiled by the Icelandic Volcano that grounded all flights on the morning they were due to fly. So, it was with great anticipation that they finally set foot in Nepal in 2011.

Izzy and Andy were fortunate to be able to team up with Barbara, an experienced teacher volunteer, who gave them many great pointers in how to engage with the children to benefit of their English skills.

As an experienced healthcare professional, Izzy was able to give basic first aid and healthcare lectures at all schools visited. Most schools have no first aid facility and teachers are not trained to recognise signs of a sick child.

Being neighbours of Steve, they became interested in volunteering in late 2009 and, following the volcanic ash incident, helped set up Manisha UK and became trustees of the charity.

Andy and Izzy volunteered for two weeks and worked at Pipaldanda, Jheksang and Basantapur schools.
