Reach For The Sky Parachute Jump

For Trustee Bernie, this was a bit of a family affair in that jumping on the same day was his daughter and son, Clare and Christopher. The idea came from Clare when she informed Bernie that she was going to do a parachute jump for the charity Age concern, Bernie then decided to support her and raise funds for Manisha UK at the same time, Christopher in turn decided to jump as well, in his case just for fun!

The tandem jump took place on the 27th June 2010 at Dunkiswell, Devon, with Bernie's partner Christine playing mother hen on the ground, insisting they did not all fly at the same time!

The deed was done by 10:30 that morning. Jumping from a height of 15,000 feet gave a period of just over one minute free fall. Being a former Para Trooper and having jumped both static line and free fall before, the day held little fear for Bernie, but it was the immense pride of being with Christopher and Clare and knowing the proceeds would go to such worthy causes that really made the day.

When signing Bernie's log book, the instructor commented that on the date of Bernie's last free fall decent he was a one year old! The parachute school was the formerly run by the Royal Marines, Bernie therefore kept very quiet about his background until after landing, this was to avoid any practical jokes during the decent.

Bernie's jump raised £1,167.50 for Manisha UK, just proving the sky's the limit when fund raising for great causes!
