This is the 10th year of the Everest Challenge and once again we're helping almost 2000 children and over 100 teachers in the 9 schools we support in poor communities of rural Nepal.
Regular attendees will recall that we launched the challenge to raise money to rebuild 5 schools, following 2015’s devastating earthquakes in Nepal.
Having completed those rebuilds, we carried on improving the schools, improving our teacher training and putting well stocked libraries into all schools, as well as establishing a Learning Resource Centre to provide IT and literacy skills to the wider community.
Since the last live Everest Challenge, we’ve been building new toilet blocks and installing water filters across our supported schools to improve attendance rates at all schools requiring them. We've also teamed up with a Nepalese charity called Children Nepal to meet our objective of handing over the running of the Learning Resource Centre to the local community.
This year, funds raised will be used to establish a dormitory at our most remote supported school, at Okhaldunga. This will save 40 pupils from walking up to 2 hours a day, each way!
