Helping our local partner in Nepal, Children-Nepal, provide vital aid to the survivors of August's devastating flood on the Nepal/Tibet border is our current top priority.
The Problem: Many people have lost their lives, while many families are suffering and struggling to cope with this crisis. Homes have been damaged and destroyed, livestock lost, farmland affected, and schools and community infrastructure damaged. Wildlife and the natural environment have also been severely affected.
The Solution: Immediate emergency relief support: Children-Nepal have asked for our help in fundraising to provide essential emergency relief materials and support to affect families.
The type and quantity of assistance to be provided is outlined in Children-Nepal's request to Manisha UK, below:
The type and quantity of assistance will be determined based on the actual needs identified in affected communities and provided in line with Government of Nepal policies, guidelines, and coordination mechanisms.
Non-food items:
Shelter: Tarpaulins, tents, ropes, blankets, plastic sheets, pillows, sleeping bags, and sleeping mats/foam.
Kitchen: Kitchen sets, gas cylinders and stoves, plastic buckets, mugs, and water containers.
Hygiene: Hygiene kits, baby kits, dignity kits, clothing slippers, masks, gloves, sanitary pads, soap, sanitizer, towels, toothbrushes and toothpaste.
Lighting: Solar lamps, solar home lighting kits, solar panels and wires, batteries, torch lights and other essential non-food items as needed.
Food items:
Rice, lentils, potatoes, cooking oil, salt, soya chunks/beans, dry vegetables, beaten rice (Chiura), spices, dry fruits, high-energy biscuits, ready-to-eat food, and other essential food items as needed.
We will give particular attention to children, women, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and the most vulnerable families, especially those who have lost their homes, essential belongings, livelihoods, or sources of income.
Rehabilitation & Recovery Support:
The need for support will continue long after the immediate emergency. CHILDREN-Nepal is therefore also seeking support for the recovery and rehabilitation of affected children, families, and communities.
Our planned support may include:
Children's education: Schools uniforms, school bags, stationery, sports materials, and other essential educational supplies to help affected children return to and continue their education.
Affected schools: School benches and desks, basic furniture, classroom materials, and other essential support to help schools resume a safe and supportive learning environment.
Family livelihoods: Support to restore income-generating activities and help affected families meet their day-to-day needs and gradually rebuild their livelihoods with dignity and self-reliance.
Other recovery needs: Additional assistance based on the evolving needs of affected communities, particularly children and vulnerable families.
All relief, rehabilitation, and recovery support will be planned and delivered based on identified needs, in coordination with relevant government authorities and local stakeholders, and in line with applicable government policies and guidelines. We believe that recovery is more than rebuilding homes- it is about helping children return to school, enabling families to restore their livelihoods, and giving affected communities the opportunities to rebuild their lives with hope and dignity.
We sincerely appeal to our friends, partners, supporters, well-wishers to stand with the people of Nepal during this difficult time. Any contribution, large or small, can make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families affected by the flood disaster.
